Auto login in Ubuntu

I know that I’m the only user in my system and no one else will have access to it. I don’t see a point to have a login screen. With Windows, I know we can set to auto login using a userid. I was searching for similar thing in Ubuntu. Found one :-)

Go to terminal and type “sudo gdmsetup”. You will get login window preferences. Select Security tab; check “Enable automatic Login” and select the user. You are done! Simple ha? But why there is no shortcut in the Preferences/Administration/Applications menu?

    There is. Check System -> Administrator -> Login screen.

    Thanks heaps! Was wanting this for the kids’ computer so I can shut it down of a night and hide the keyboard. They only use TuxPaint so don’t need a keyboard anyway!

    Sweet feature!

    But when I enabled automatic login but there was no user to select, I manually typed my user name (no typo’s) though i think it doesn’t work since i have a password :S can be something else but anyway…
    Can anyone help me out on this?

    there is an option in the administrations menu!
